The 2017 NBA Draft takes place on June 22. Today, we will preview the night for the Sacramento Kings and provide links to all our draft content.

The night Sacramento Kings fans have been waiting for has finally arrived.   Tonight, all those enticing rookie prospects will find out their homes for next season.  The draft is an important evening for the Kings and could be the first step to rebuilding their roster.  Today, we will preview what to expect from the Kings and provide you with links to all the information you need to know for tonight’s proceedings.

Where the Sacramento Kings select

The Kings currently have three selections in this draft.  They will be on the clock at pick five, ten and 34 overall.

Things to watch for

Trades

With Sacramento holding two top ten selections, they have a lot of trading flexibility tonight.  What they should be hoping for is a player begins to fall, and a team is willing to overpay to move up to select them.

I think we will see at least one trade from Vlade Divac and the Kings tonight so stay tuned for that.

Buying a second round pick

I think Sacramento is exactly the type of team that should buy a second round pick.  The Kings need assets so adding a young talent on a rookie contract for the cost of just money should be a no-brainer move.

Off the beating path

The Kings are often the team that deviates from the consensus and does something a little off the wall.  Last year it was trading back from eighth overall to pick 13 and selecting Georgios Papagiannis.   Papagiannis was a consensus second-round pick heading into the draft, but Sacramento selected him in the late lottery.  Do not be surprised if they do something similar tonight.

Draft coverage

ESPN does an excellent job covering the draft every year, but the proceedings move fast, so all you usually hear is positives about the players.  Do not be tricked into thinking every player is going to play a starring role for their team next season.  They call these players prospects and projects for a reason.  Most of them need to work on their bodies and games to be an NBA player.
