With the Draft fast approaching, A Royal Pain continues the coverage of college prospects making the jump. Today we look at Jaron Blossomgame.

Jaron Blossomgame from the Clemson Tigers is a 23-year-old redshirt senior who has shown serious promise as a college athlete. Blossomgame redshirted due to the broken leg he suffered in April of his senior year in high school.

Profile/Measurements:

Name: Jaron Blossomgame

College: Clemson

Position: Forward

Birthday: 9 /16 / 1993 (23)

Height: 6’7

Weight: 220lbs

2016-17 Statistics:

Points Per Game – 17.7 / Rebounds Per Game – 6.3 / Assists Per Game – 1.5 / Blocks Per Game – 0.9 / Steals Per Game 0.8 / Minutes Per Game – 34.3 / 49.9% FG / 25.5% 3P / 71.4% FT

Strengths:

Jaron Blossomgame is a mature, athletic wing who could become a 3-and-D player and a real asset for a team. Although he shot a bad percentage three of the four years from three-point territory, he shot just under 45% in 2015-16 and shot 71% from the FT line which showcases his shooting mechanics.

When Blossomgame is hot, he shoots at a very high clip and could translate that to the NBA. Blossomgame is also very athletic and could be a great role player off the bench in the same mold as Andre Iguodala is for the Warriors.

Blossomgame is a real defensive presence. He can guard one through three and even some four’s. He predominantly played power forward for the Tigers and could emerge as an undersized stretch four at the next level.

Weaknesses:

As I mentioned earlier, Jaron had suffered a broken leg back in high school which caused him to redshirt his first year.  Blossomgame decided to stay and play NCAA basketball for four seasons after his redshirt. He is 24 years old at the start of the 2017-18 NBA season and could limit his ceiling.

He’s also been a very streaky shooter. He shot 29.725% from three in his college career, and it doesn’t look like he will ever become a willing scorer. His shots will come from off-ball movements like backdoor cuts and running off screens.

Jaron is somewhat undersized to play power forward, and he’s still an average size for a small forward. We’ve seen undersized swingmen have success before (Draymond Green, Paul Millsap) so it isn’t a done deal, but at the moment it is a disadvantage.

Fit with Sacramento

With the official departure of Rudy Gay, the Kings are in serious need of some wing players and Blossomgame could be the sleeper in the second round. He’s a potential 3-and-D wing with good athleticism, not to mention his incredible work ethic.
