The Sacramento Kings desperately need Bogdan Bogdanovic healthy
By John Kelly
It is critical for the Sacramento Kings and Bogdan Bogdanovic that the Serbian star remains healthy for the 2018-19 season.
This was not the news the Sacramento Kings wanted to hear before training camp had begun. Bogdan Bogdanovic injured his knee during the FIBA World Cup and has been sidelined ever since. This isn’t his first knee injury either. He had his first knee procedure at the end of last season, and that kept Bogdan out for two months. This time, Bogdan’s procedure was given a timetable of four to six weeks.
With Bogdan missing the beginning of the regular season, it’s impacted the Kings in a profoundly negative way. With a myriad of good teams set to face off against Sacramento during the first month, the Kings will have to play mistake-free basketball to get some victories.
The Kings need Bogdan soon

For the last couple of years, the Kings have been overmatched by the talent on the other side of the ball. It has allowed the opponents on defense to cheat by daring certain Kings to shoot the long ball while they crowd the paint.
Because of this, Sacramento needs Bogdan’s shooting and his steadying presence on the floor. He always knows what to do on offense and where to be on defense., for him to be out for any amount of time hurts the team. Even more so at the beginning of the year when the Kings cannot afford a bad start.
Kings can stretch the floor and open up the paint with Bogdanovic
This is why Bogdan needs to be playing. Head Coach Dave Joerger wants a fast-paced offense that involves a lot of passing and cutting. When Bogdan and Buddy hit the long ball, it opens up the floor for every other player on the court. With good guard play, the Kings will get open looks and a clearer path to the rim.
Bogdan is a player that has great instincts on the court and has terrific movement without the ball. His defense isn’t great, but it was made better by his aggressive play as a rookie. Add in the fact that he is a gym rat, should mean he will improve in his game going forward.
Bogdan can help the Sacramento Kings find a rhythm
Every team needs a player who can make the game seem easy. Bogdan, is that guy for Sacramento with his ability to play three positions along with being a natural fit in the offense. Now, the Kings must start the year, and every game after, with their five best players on the floor. But, they also need to play with at a high pace that wears their opponents down.
The Kings do not have to make the playoffs, but what they have to do is play well as a team as show improvement. Bogdan increases the odds that Sacramento starts the season strong.
Final Thoughts On Bogdan
With Harry Giles and Willie Cauley-Stein being above average passers for big men, putting Bogdan on the floor as another playmaker will give the offense more options to handle the ball and score. When you have all five players on the court capable of making the extra pass, your team is almost guaranteed a good shot.
The Sacramento Kings become a more potent threat from anywhere on the floor with Bogdan Bogdanovic healthy. Bogi is a plug-and-play guy, just put him in and he will find a way of making your team better. Bogdan gives the Kings a better chance to win, period. Hopefully, the recovery process is going smoothly for him.
