3 Players To Watch For In Sacramento Kings’ Preseason Opener
By Rafe Wong
With the Sacramento Kings beginning their preseason tonight, here are my three players that the fans should look out for in the contest.
Well, it is finally here Sacramento Kings fans. The time has come where the preseason starts for your team as they go up against the Phoenix Suns.
There are so many exciting headlines that this contest holds. The first two picks in last summer’s draft will face off against each other in Deandre Ayton and Marvin Bagley III. The Kings will also feature new players like Harry Giles, Yogi Ferrell, and Nemanja Bjelica.
With a lot of excitement heading towards this game, which headlines stand out above the rest? In my opinion, there are three guys that Kings fans should pay attention to during today’s match.
Let us check out those three players.
De’Aaron Fox
The Kings mentioned how they want their offense to run with more energy this upcoming year, and it will be successful if De’Aaron Fox leads the way. For Fox, he has the potential to be a star point guard in the NBA. With his athleticism, intangibles, and clutchness, he definitely has the ability to help the Kings run an uptempo offense efficiently.
How often is Fox going to run and increase the pace of the offense this season? Based on what he does tonight, it will give Kings fans a good idea of how serious the Kings and Fox are in committing to a faster-paced offense.
Skal Labissiere
Skal Labissiere is maybe the biggest wildcard on the Kings’ roster. He has all the skills that general managers and coaches clamor for when looking for a modern big man, but his lack of strength has been a problem in his first two NBA seasons.
But based on how Skal is looking these days, his lack of strength may be in the past. During this summer, Skal has been training hard in the weight room and it definitely shows. He looks like he has gained a good 20 pounds, and hopefully, it is ALL muscle.
Now that Skal has gone through his body (and facial hair) transformation, it creates optimism that he will have a breakout year this season. If his skills remain legit and he shows he can handle the physicality of the NBA, do not count him out as being a focal point in Sacramento’s future.
Marvin Bagley III
The prized draft selection that the Kings acquired this summer. You knew he was definitely going to be on the list.
Tonight will be the first time the fans will see Marvin Bagley III playing with the Kings. He did play some games with the team’s summer league squad, but he was not running with most of the guys that he will be playing with during the regular season.
A lot of questions have risen on what type of impact Bagley will make in his rookie year. Will he be an NBA-ready player or a project? Tonight will give the Kings and their fans a perspective of where the first-round pick is at in his NBA career. How he handles the muscle and strength of the NBA, or where his jump shot is at? These questions may be answered tonight.
