The Sacramento Kings complacency has become a running joke

Coming into the 2024 offseason, we knew that the Sacramento Kings needed to upgrade their roster. However, here we are, three days into the start of free agency, and no major move in sight.

Yes, they extended head coach Mike Brown (the best coach they have had in the last 15 years). They re-signed Malik Monk to a semi-shocking deal. They drafted Devin Carter with the 13th overall pick. And they added Isaiah Crawford in the undrafted free agency market (a player I am pretty high on).

Those are all solid moves. But they are only marginal in an NBA landscape with teams that are rapidly improving. So far this offseason, the New York Knicks have added Mikal Bridges and retained OG Anunoby. The Oklahoma City Thunder have traded for Alex Caruso, and then signed Isaiah Hartenstein (and negotiated new deals with Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins). The Dallas Mavericks have added Quentin Grimes, Naji Marshall, and Klay Thompson. You get the point.

Whether it be Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, or Lauri Markkanen, the Kings need a significant upgrade to their roster if they hope to be anything more than first round fodder next season. And while there have been many rumors swirling around, nothing has transpired.

So, Twitter (I'm not calling it "X") has done what they always do: turn it into a hilarious joke.

Twitter Clowns The Kings For Their Complacency

When it isn't ridden with toxicity, Twitter is a great place to scroll through for some cheap laughs, especially the ones produced by passionate fan accounts.

Fan accounts are funny, but sometimes they can be a tad bit harsh. We shouldn't always take their dissatisfaction as a sign that the team is making a poor decision (or, in this case, a poor lack of decision). However, when actual writers come at you, that's a different story.

Hell, even national writers are joining the party at this point (Cameron Salerno is a great Twitter follow who works at CBS Sports, by the way).

At the end of the day, we still love our Kings. We just love them so much that we want what is best for them. And right now, given their current roster and trade capital, what's best for them is a blockbuster trade.

Let's just hope they swing one soon.
