The Sacramento Kings most recent signing is a little bit underwhelming

On Wednesday, the Sacramento Kings announced that they have agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal with Dexter Dennis. For those unfamiliar with this type of contract, an Exhibit 10 deal is "a one-year, minimum salary agreement that isn't guaranteed (per Yahoo Sports.)"

Dennis appeared in four games last season with the Dallas Mavericks on a Two-Way. Dennis also averaged 9.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 26.8 mittens in the G League with the Texas Legends and Cleveland Charge.

Before that, Dennis spent five years playing collegiate ball – four years at Wichita State and one year at Texas A&M.

Why the Dexter Dennis signing was disappointing?

Okay, so back to the headline of this article. This is not intended to be offensive to Dennis. He's a fine player, and I'm sure he will be a valuable contribution to the team relative to what he's being paid. Besides, you hardly get any major players at this point in the offseason.

But the reason this is an underwhelming signing is because of the other names that were mentioned as being potential new members of the team. At 24 years old, Dennis can still grow into a rotation-level player. However, to this point, he's only played four NBA games in his career.

Meanwhile, over the last few weeks, the Kings have had guys like Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, TJ Warren, and Nassir Little in for workouts. These players are all established role players or former stars (in Thomas' case).

Another thing to mention is that Dennis (6'5) isn't really what the Kings need right now. They need more size. So, seeing a name pop up that isn't a big wing/forward doesn't make too much sense at first glance.

So, when you hear those names, you expect the next signing to be a player who has played a couple hundred games in the NBA already. Of course, this doesn't disqualify the Kings from offering one of these guys a camp deal (except Little, who has already signed with the Miami Heat). But now, they will have to clear out even more space on the roster to make room for them.
