Former number one overall pick sounds like he's always wanted to play for the Kings

When DeMar DeRozan chose to come to the Sacramento Kings (remember, a player gets to pick where they are going in a sign-and-trade), it came as a pleasant surprise to many people. The reason for this is that Sacramento is not exactly viewed as a destination.

Well, at least it wasn't. It seems like the last few years of winning have turned Sacramento into a cool city that current players like DeRozan and former players like Greg Oden (wait one second) want to play for.

Greg Oden says he wants to "Light the Beam"

For those who don't remember or weren't watching the NBA back then, Oden was the first overall pick in the 2007 Draft. The same draft that saw Kevin Durant get selected by the Seattle SuperSonsics with the number two pick.

Unlike Durant, Oden is no longer in the league. Despite his tremendous talent, Oden was never able to stay healthy. It started when he missed what was supposed to be his rookie year (2007-08) with a right knee injury. After playing 61 games in 2008-09, Oden was limited to 21 games in 2009-10. Oden missed the next three years with knee issues. He finally returned in 2013-14 but played in only 23 games before hanging it up at the age of 26.

Nowadays, Oden remains in the NBA world, appearing on Gilbert Arenas' famous (or infamous, depending on your take) podcast "Gil's Arena."

On a recent episode of the show, the crew discussed De'Aaron Fox's recent stretch of hot play, even going as far as to say they'd take him over Tyrese Haliburton right now.

During his monologue, Oden mentioned that he's always wanted to Light the Beam.

As many of you are well aware, whenever the Kings win a home game, they "Light the Beam" in celebration. This isn't Oden specifically saying he wants/wanted to play in Sacramento. But when you say something like that, you may as well be saying that.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter if Oden likes Sacramento or not. But considering how bleak the state of the franchise was just a few seasons ago, it is still pretty cool to see how far they've come.
