As All-Star Weekend creeps closer, many wondered if Sacramento Kings sharpshooter Buddy Hield would be in the three-point contest. Now, it seems he will be.

According to local radio host Carmichael Dave, Sacramento Kings sniper Buddy Hield will represent the Kings in the 3 Point Contest.

The tweet from Dave was a revealing of the handful of Kings who would be participating in the events over All-Star Weekend. There will be three Kings in the Rising Stars Challenge, including reigning MVP Bogdan Bogdanovic, in addition to Hield.

While Dave specifically pre-faced the tweet with “I’m told” to signify that nothing was official, there are few NBA players that deserve a spot in the 3 Point Contest more than Buddy Hield.

More from A Royal Pain

Buddy is shooting a career-best 44.4% from beyond the arc, top ten in the league. He has the third most 3 point makes while having the eighth most attempts. In 13 games this season, Hield has made five or more 3’s. Kemba Walker has 8 such games. Paul George and Klay Thompson have 14. Combined.

Hield has made plenty of clutch baskets and has been a catalyst for the Kings early season success. The 4th is his most accurate quarter, where he is shooting 50% from distance. His attempts have increased as well. After shooting 10 or more threes just once over the first twenty games, he has eclipsed double digits 9 times in the last 24 games.

The Kings franchise and their fans deserve it, too. Hield would be the first King to participate in All-Star Weekend’s long ball contest since Peja Stojakovic made his final appearance as a King in 2004. (The only King to appear in the Dunk Contest since 2002 was Ben McLemore in 2014, for some reason. Thanks mostly to DeMarcus Cousins, there has been a King in the Skills Challenge every year since 2015.)

Whether or not Carmichael Dave’s source was correct, Buddy Hield should, and probably will, represent Sacramento during All-Star Weekend. The 3-Point Contest will be held on Saturday, February 16th.
