The Sacramento Kings are 12-11 and on a two-game win streak, can they push it to three on the road against in Cleveland?

The Sacramento Kings are heading to Ohio to face the defending Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers are also 5-19, but that’s not important. So, can the Sacramento Kings push their win streak to three games? They should and there should also be a similar beginning to end dominance from Sacramento as there was in the their win over the Phoenix Suns.

The Sacramento Kings are 2-2 against the Cavaliers since the start of the 2016-17 season, but things have obviously changed on both teams since the end of last season. For starters, the Kings are actually a good team this season and, well, the Cleveland Cavaliers are far from it. Cleveland has floundered since losing LeBron James in the offseason and rookie 2018 draft pick Collin Sexton has struggled thus far in his career.

The Sacramento Kings are also chasing something else: their second three-game win streak of the season and just their third since 2016. While chasing win streaks is not the most pressing thing for a basketball team, it is interesting to see how this team deals with winning. The best players on the Sacramento Kings (think: De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, Willie Cauley-Stein, Bogdan Bogdanovic) have never been part of a winning team.

The Kings have done great handling the pressures that come with winning so far, but it’s still fair to wonder if that will suddenly change. The Kings weren’t supposed to be good this season, in fact during the preseason the Kings weren’t expected to win more than 25 games, yet here they are.

They have gotten here because of strong play from their cornerstone players, however, De’Aaron Fox has started to slump (or regress?) and their top draft pick from this year is still nursing a back injury. Can they keep it going without them providing at a high-level every night?

So far the answer seems to be yes, but they barely edged out the Indiana Pacers and then played the Suns who don’t look like they could hang with the Sioux Falls Skyforce let alone a good NBA team. The Cavs won’t test the Kings in this regard, but it is imperative they get a win tonight if they want to go after a playoff spot.

The Sacramento Kings are a good team, the problem is, that there’s far too many great teams in the West for Sacramento to just let talent carry them to nightly victories. They will beat some top-tier teams, but they need to get their wins by beating up on the NBA’s bottom-dwellers. Teams like that Cavs and Suns who are battling it out for lottery positioning and who the Kings should have a massive talent advantage over.

So, can the Sacramento Kings best the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road? Not only should they, but they need to if they want to be taken seriously by the rest of the league.
