The Sacramento Kings addressed a lot of needs this offseason, but one hole that the front office was unable to fill was the depth at the point guard position.

Currently, the Kings have just two pure point guards on their depth chart, veteran Darren Collison and recent second round draft pick Isaiah Cousins.

The Kings front office still have time to add another point guard to their roster, but in the case that they don’t, Kings fans should see Cousins get the opportunity to shine early in his professional career.

Although he will be a newbie in the NBA, Cousins brings a lot of experience compared to a majority of his rookie counterparts.

Going against the trend that most basketball prospects follow, Cousins spent four years playing at the University of Oklahoma where he averaged 9.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.

During his tenure with the Sooners (137 games), Cousins was also able to experience playing in the March Madness Tournament four times where his teams finished in Sweet 16 one year (2015) and in the Final Four the year after that (2016).

Based on his production in college, Cousins has the makeup to be a legit facilitator at the professional level. He brings good size for his position (6’4”/187 lbs) and versatility that makes him a potential asset on the Kings roster, and hopefully he is able to utilize his skills and tools to help the Kings this season.

It is uncertain whether Collison will start the season with the Kings based on his recent domestic violence charge, so not only will Cousins have the opportunity to play significant minutes early in the season, but he might also be fighting for a short-term starting spot when training camp starts.

Obviously, a lot can change from now until the season opener. A “Woj Bomb” could come down from nowhere and hit the Twitter world stating that the Kings have added another point guard to their roster. However, if it doesn’t, which is realistic, expect #10 to get early opportunities to showcase his worth this upcoming season.

Hopefully, for the health of Kings fans, he is successful in doing so.
