It finally came when the Sacramento Kings were eliminated from postseason contention, but Seth Curry has finally been granted consistent playing time and has capitalized on the opportunity.

The Kings throughout this season have struggled and the two guard position is arguably the weakest position on the team’s depth chart.

With players like Marco Belinelli, Ben McLemore, and James Anderson all playing ahead of Curry for the majority of the season, Curry rarely had a legit chance to showcase his worth.

But since Curry has been given the opportunity as of late, it is debatable whether he has been the best shooting guard the Kings have had all along.

For this Kings team, the ideal version of a two-guard is a 3 and D type of player. A player that can be efficient on the defensive end and offensively can make three-point shots at a consistent rate. Curry, based on the numbers and eye test, has been the closest version to that.

It’s a small sample size, but since Curry has been a regular rotation player for the Kings, since 3/25, the former Duke Blue Devil has averaged 15.3 points in 7 games while shooting a field goal percentage of 52.1% from the court overall and 51.5% from the three-point line.

Not only has he been solid offensively, but Curry also has been the peskiest and most energetic defender that the Kings have had as of late.

The Kings have been a disappointment this season, there is no denying that. On paper, this year was suppose to be different as they had their most talented roster in years lead by one of the most winningest coaches in NBA history. But similar to many recent seasons the Kings failed to meet their expectations.

One of the pleasant surprises, however, has been the production of Seth Curry. When Curry was originally signed at the beginning of this season he was meant to come in as a sharpshooter that would come in now and again for his team.

He has proven as the season progresses that he should have been played a lot earlier than he has and could be an important piece of the puzzle for this franchise going forward.

Unfair or not, there are certain players in sports that receive more opportunities than others. Seth Curry hasn’t received many opportunities this season, but when he has been granted the chance he has shown that he belongs in the NBA. FOR A LOOOOONG TIME!
