The Sacramento Kings were able to get the road victory today as they defeated the New York Knicks this afternoon. The Kings record is now 27-42.

In most cases a usual Kings game consists of both teams scoring in triple digits and with a Sacramento loss, but today was the exact opposite of that.

The game started out perfectly for the Kings as they lead 28-12 after the first quarter. They stepped on the acceleration pedal early and kept the wheels moving for the whole 12 minutes.

The majority of Sacramento’s offense came from DeMarcus Cousins and Darren Collison. Also, the Kings defense took advantage of a sluggish Knicks team by only allowing them to score just 12 points for the quarter off of 22% shooting.

However, what momentum Sacramento had in the first quarter did not translate into the second. The Knicks started to creep into the King’s lead to only trail 47-50 going into halftime and were trailing 65-69 after three quarters of play.

The game was close going into the fourth, but Cousins and company were able to sustain their lead and seal the win with a score of 88-80.

Notable performances from players on Sacramento were DeMarcus Cousins who scored 24 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, Rudy Gay with 17 points and 4 rebounds, and Omri Casspi who scored 15 points off the bench.

Notables players on the Knicks today were Robin Lopez who scored 23 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, Kristaps Porzingis who scored 13 points, and Jerian Grant who recorded 14 points and 2 steals.

Overall, the Kings ended up winning this game because they only allowed New York to score 80 points.

The defense of Sacramento was not bad, but it certainly helped that the Knicks were without the services of Carmelo Anthony and that they only shot 35.2% from the floor and 21.1% from the perimeter. This game will look to powder up some of the atrocious defensive numbers that the Kings have listed this season.

For the Kings going forward, the team will continue on with their road trip tomorrow as they will travel to Chicago to face the Bulls.
