DeMarcus Cousins Hot Month Highlights All-Star Campaign
By Rafe Wong
The Sacramento Kings have posted an 8-5 record so far in the month of January, and a lot of the credit has to go towards big man DeMarcus Cousins.
Since the loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, something has seemed to spark the Kings franchise player.
Thus far in the month of January Cousins is averaging 33.1 points, 13 rebounds, 0.9 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game. He is also shooting 49.8% from the court and 43.9% from beyond the arc, both percentages are season highs for a month.

As a result of a great month, Cousins is a serious candidate to earn Western Conference Player of the Month, which would add on to his already rewarded Player of Week honors for this month.
Because of the epic month that Cousins is having it’s inevitable that he will take part in the NBA All-Star game that takes place in Toronto in February.
Of course, it may seem asinine to think that Boogie wouldn’t be invited to the game of stars, but in the last two seasons Cousins also produced All-Star numbers only to be snubbed out of the original roster for both years. In 2015, Cousins was an All-Star replacement due to the injury of Kobe Bryant.
Although the All-Star selection committee haven’t been kind to Cousins in the past, this month of January may have stamped his ticket to Toronto. Not only has Cousins performance in January been hot, but throughout this whole season, he is producing career numbers.
Averaging 27.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks a game is just too good for the coaches of the West to pass on the big man this time.
Overall, DeMarcus Cousins is having himself a heck of a season so far, and his recent month of play is the highlight of his campaign to making the All-Star game for the second time in his career.

Not only does this month of play makes it clear-cut that Cousins is an All-Star now, but considering that he is only 25 years of age it’s an exciting feeling for Kings fans to know that there is plenty more to come from #15.
