The Golden 1 Center Is Coming Along Smoothly

Get your last looks at the (pictured above) Sleep Train Arena, because after this season it will no longer be your home for Sacramento Kings basketball. That will be the Golden 1 Center, which is coming along quite nicely according to all reports coming out of Sacramento at the moment.

I initially wrote about the naming process and why Golden 1 Credit Union was a great choice to get the naming rights a few months ago, and it seems like the entire process of constructing the arena has been going great as well ever since.

One thing I love about the planned arena is how green its projected to be. As pictured in these solar panel renderings released by Kings.com, the entire roof of the Golden 1 Center will be covered in energy producing solar panels that are expected to produce over 750 kilowatts (a day, I presume).

And that’s not the only way the new Kings arena is going to be energy-efficient, according to the president of the organization:

"“From solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations to advanced lighting controls and low-flow plumbing fixtures, the Kings are dedicated to utilizing innovative sustainability practices.” – Kings President Chris Granger."

Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé has always been dedicated to building a technological marvel, and it definitely seems like he’s accomplishing that goal with some of the seriously cool measures and features going into the Golden 1 Center.

Just today the organization announced some of the food that will be available at the new arena, and unsurprisingly enough it’s a lot more than hot dogs and beer (not like there’s anything wrong with hot dogs and beer, though).

The selections were guided heavily by the Kings official food and drink provider, Legends Hospitality. Apparently at least 90 percent of what’s available to consume at G1 will be coming from the local area–within 150 miles of the arena. That’s an outstanding commitment to local businesses, just like the naming rights themselves.

Four local companies are going to provide a lot of the menu through some of their restaurants–Paraguay Restaurant Group, Selland Family Resturants, Lowbrau Bierhall and Star Ginger are confirmed as being involved in the food that fans can eat while watching Kings basketball.

The founder of Star Ginger (who also happens to be a world-renowned chef) pretty much summed up how amazing some of the menu items are going to be, and why having them sets apart watching basketball in Sacramento:

"“We’re so ecstatic about serving up our creative take on cuisine at Golden 1 Center,” said Star Ginger Founder Mai Pham. “Where else in America can you go to watch a basketball game while savoring a banh mi sandwich or Thai chicken wings with papaya salad?”"

For more information on what will be available I would highly advise checking out the Kings.com article announcing the partnerships, and also simply going to Sacramento Kings home games in the 2016-17 season and trying the exotic and delicious fare yourself!
