DeMarcus Cousins Receives Key To His Hometown of Mobile, Alabama

Finally, some well-deserved good news involving Sacramento Kings star DeMarcus Cousins. On Friday Boogie received the key to his hometown of Mobile, Alabama to commend his efforts to give back to Mobile since making it big in the NBA.

Cousins toured the city, including spending time at Michael Figures Park, which Boogie would like to transform from it’s currently dilapidated state into a great place for kids to hoop. Cousins said he’d like for it to be on the level of Rucker Park, a place where some of the best basketball players in the city of New York (and sometimes NBA players like Kevin Durant) come to play.

I love Cousins’ ambition on this project, and the fact that despite being characterized as moody and other unfair negative qualities by the media he’s actually such a stand-up guy. It makes it that much easier to cheer for Boogie on the court when you know the good he does in his time off of it.

It seems that the Kings will have a frontcourt duo of philanthropists for a long, long time seeing as Willie Cauley-Stein also loves helping out and giving back to his various communities.  That sort of team attitude makes it dramatically easier for the Kings to gain new fans, which is an important part of any small market rebuilding process.

I feel like it’s also beneficial to team chemistry, in a way. I wouldn’t go as far as saying guys who do charity work and give back are always going to get along better in the locker room, but many players on the Kings actions seem to be indicative of their personalities, and having a lot of good, down to earth players can only be a good thing for dealing with the tumultuous ups and downs of an NBA season.

I just feel like Sacramento and DeMarcus Cousins both deserves some wins this season. The two have been through a lot together, both on and off the court, and it’s time for some winning to wash away all of the drama and losing seasons real soon.

That team chemistry I mentioned before might be the biggest factor in getting those hard-fought wins, though. I think it’s fairly safe to say that Sacramento’s roster is at least in the top eight in the Western Conference based on pure talent.

That means the Kings just need to get along and mesh well, and they could have a legitimate chance to battle into the playoffs this season. Teams like Utah, Phoenix and Dallas have good rosters, but they don’t have a superstar talent like Boogie.

That gives the Kings an advantage right off of the bat, and this team’s depth is no joke either.  That means it boils down to how the team plays together, so hopefully we see good presences like Boogie take over the locker room.

If everybody on this team is building each other up instead of tearing each other down, these Kings could go places. Let’s just hope in addition to a nice new park in Alabama DeMarcus Cousins can also build a winning team in Sacramento.
