Sacramento Kings Mid-Week Recap: Drama Sticks Around

facebooktwitterreddit

This is a new thing here at A Royal Pain–I figured that there’s a lot of Sacramento Kings fans out there that miss some stories and cool Kings things throughout the week, so I’ve gathered a few of them here for you to check out to help get through the tough first part of the week.

More from Kings News

In the future I’ll try to do one of these once every Tuesday to help everybody keep up with what’s going on in Sacramento basketball news. I may be late or forget sometimes. Such is life. There will be some ARP pieces here (because come on, I’ve got to rep my own site) but also a lot of stuff from Twitter and other great Kings sites, and some national stuff.

First off we have a really fun article from CBS Sports’ James Herbert about how scary and awesome Willie Cauley-Stein’s true potential seems to be. Herbert seems to be legitimately super high on WCS and helps to dispel some common and lazy knocks against him. It’s a good read for Kings fans looking to learn more and get even more excited about Sacramento’s rookie sensation, which should be all Kings fans.

Next on my list is a really, really good article posted today by Tony Xypteras over at Sactown Royalty about how logicial it is for Vlade Divac to want to surround himself with people he trusts in the front office. I’ve touched on that subject a few times, but Xypteras really goes into it here, and the result is an awesome read for Kings fans that helps dispel concern about the Kings front office going forward.

Time for an ARP plug. We had a few articles I thought were great this week, but one that stood out in particular was this Zack Zolmer article about rounding out Sacramento’s Big Three. It’s a fun thought exercise, and it’s actually not as easy as you’d think to figure out who the third member is right now, or if it should be based on pure talent or must include someone who’s going to be in the starting five.

We had a new hire this week, as Roland Beech was picked to replace Dean Oliver and be the Kings VP of analytics, first reported by Marc Stein (we also covered the story):

We had fun watching Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins face off in a Team USA scrimmage that Boogie absolutely went off in. I covered it here, and pretended that the two Kings stars had a rivalry after this beautiful full slap from Rudy:

We also had the Kings schedule drop this week, with Sactown Royalty’s Akis Yerocostas first noticing a nice little quirk about Sacramento’s lack of lengthy road trips:

Later on I took a look at five games on the schedule that Kings fans should mark on their calendar this season, because they’re going to be good.

Finally, we had some drama crop up this morning to end the week. Howard Beck of Bleacher Report claimed that the majority of the Kings organization wanted to trade DeMarcus Cousins in this video. Boogie, Vlade and Vivek feel otherwise:

I feel like it’s not true as well, thanks to my source in the Kings organization telling me as much, quite clearly. It seems to be just another false alarm for Sacramento basketball, but still these repeated reports are just a little unnerving each and every time, despite the lack of true evidence that the Kings braintrust wants to deal Boogie.

That’s all I got for this week. Check back next Tuesday for some more Kings news from around the internet, and make sure to check out our other great articles here at A Royal Pain that don’t get featured here!
