Welp, here we go again Kings fans. We have yet another national writer reporting that the Sacramento Kings are likely to try to trade franchise cornerstone and potential All-NBA First Teamer DeMarcus Cousins. This time it’s Bleacher Report’s Howard Beck, and instead of a written article it’s a video.

It’s not real positive stuff–essentially Beck reports on three stars who may be traded, or are at least on the block. The first two are older guys who want to go to winning teams–Carmelo Anthony and Joe Johnson. The third is Boogie.
You can watch the whole thing if you’d like, but here’s the pertinent Boogie section transcribed to the best of my (admittedly weak) transcribing ability:
"DeMarcus Cousins. Look, Sacramento I think wants to hold on to him. I think the owner, Vivek Ranadivé absolutely wants to hold onto DeMarcus Cousins. But I’ve been told that if you polled the rest of the organization, the vast majority are in favor of trading DeMarcus Cousins. That would include, though he denies it, Geroge Karl. We saw that awkward moment between George Karl and DeMarcus Cousins at Summer League, they’re trying to put the best face on their relationship but it certainly has all the making of a doomed partnership. And maybe they get through it, they’ll certainly give each other a chance in the early going. But if there’s any signs of tension, there’s problems between them, if chemistry’s an issue for that team and there’s potential volatility all across that roster then you have to expect the Sacramento Kings to at least consider [trading Cousins]. And DeMarcus Cousins, young, elite, one of the top big men in the NBA, they’ll be plenty of interest across the league."
So there’s a lot there, but the most important part is that quote about the “vast majority” of the Kings organization being in favor of trading Boogie. If that’s true, I’m in total shock and disbelief. If the Kings’ organization is in favor of trading Cousins, they need a whole new organization. That’s just stupid, plain and simple.
But luckily it’s not true. The first ones to report it as false were three important members of the Kings family: Vivek, Vlade Divac and DeMarcus Cousins himself:
It’s fairly telling how easily the three of them felt this could be dispelled–just a few casual tweets, no press conference or anything that serious. I’ve got a more thorough quote from a source within the Kings organization who claims Beck’s report is “100% erroneous”.
My source went on to say that “there is no validity to a recent claim that a majority of the organization wants Cuz traded. Quite the contrary. We’re thrilled to have him as an integral member of the Kings family” and that “a trade is not brewing.”
So there you have it, folks. I don’t know where these established national writers are getting all these trade rumors from, but everybody within the Kings has been steadfast that the only trade talks involving DeMarcus Cousins have been merely entertaining calls from other organizations–no one in the Kings wishes to deal Boogie just to deal him.
And that’s how it should be. DeMarcus Cousins isn’t worth what most teams could possibly afford to give up for him, and any teams that might have enough to make talks interesting would never give up what they have. Cousins loves Sacramento, Sacramento loves Cousins, end of story.
Now let’s get to the NBA season, already. I’m tired of all this damn drama–I just want to watch some Kings basketball.
