Surprise surprise, Adrian Wojnarowski seems to have misreported yet another Sacramento Kings rumor. A few days ago I wrote an article based on a Woj tweet that claimed Hedo Turkoglu’s “pal”, Vlade Divac, was interested in bringing in Turkolgu back to Sacramento.
Despite his penchant for Kings bashing and shaky reporting on some Kings stories over this summer, I was inclined to believe Wojnarowski because he is still essentially the premier NBA reporter, although once more it seems Woj has missed the mark on stories revolving around Sacramento.
Well, that’s a little awkward. This article from ProBasketballTalk highlights a few reasons that Turkoglu rumors didn’t make the most sense in the first place, namely due to his advanced age (36) and the Kings only having one roster spot open at the moment.
Those are both valid reasons not to sign Turkoglu, but as I stated in my first Hedo article if he kept up the shooting stroke he had in Los Angeles with the Clippers in Sacramento he would’ve been a nice bench guy to bring in for a few minutes here and there to space the floor a bit.

Although in retrospect it seems the Kings do have a lot of guys who do that already, including Caron Butler who is essentially already occupying the “veteran shooter who will knock down some big shots here and there and provide leadership” role to a tee.
This is one of those reports where although it is getting tiring to have seemingly random players linked to Sacramento just because Vlade Divac is running the show, it’s really not such a big deal because we are talking about the 15th spot on the roster here.
There’s a pretty wide gap between the floor and the ceiling of this Kings team, but not even diehard Kings fans believe this is a team that’s likely to contend for a championship this season, and even on those teams going for it all the 15th man doesn’t play much of a role.
So even though I liked the idea of Turkoglu on the Kings’ deep bench, it doesn’t exactly break my heart that we won’t be seeing him make his grand return to Sacramento this season. Maybe he can come back as an assistant coach or front office guy someday, but it seems unlikely that Hedo will suit up for the Kings again at this point.
