Sacramento Kings Place Eric Moreland on Waivers
By Kyle Robert
Eric Moreland will be placed on waivers by the Sacramento Kings. This story was first reported by Shams Charania, who covers the NBA for RealGM. He has been nailing the Kings news of late. Sactown Royalty put out a list of NBA reporters based upon how much we should trust their info. He made the Reliable section.
While the move isn’t a good one for those Kings fans hoping Moreland would be with the team this season, there is still a chance he returns to the team. The Sacramento Kings had to make a move by August 1st regarding Moreland. If they did not place him on waivers or cut him outright, his contract would become fully guaranteed.
His current contract will pay him an average of $777,609 for the next 3 seasons. Before the final year of his deal in 2017, Moreland would become a restricted Free Agent. Teams now have 48 hours to put a claim in on him.

Moreland is just 23 years old and has shown growth during his time with the Reno Bighorns and during NBA Summer League. There were already rumors swirling that he may be dealt earlier this summer, so the likelihood of him clearing waivers is slim.
The writing was already on the wall for the possible departure of Moreland. The Kings signed both Quincy Acy and Duje Dukan this summer. Both are options at the power forward spot, which was already clogged with the drafting of Willie Cauley-Stein and the signing of Kosta Koufos.
This move may be made with giving Moreland a chance to catch on elsewhere and play, knowing he would likely be buried on the end of the bench in Sacramento. The next 48 hours will be interesting. If he somehow clears waivers, he could join the Kings in training camp. But with logjam at the post position spots, the Kings may just move on either way.
