The Sacramento Kings have just two wins in their last ten games, both of which came against the Charlotte Hornets. That probably says more about the Hornets than the Kings, but Friday nights 101-91 win was actually something to appreciate because DeMarcus Cousins didn’t play. We know how bad the Kings have been without Cousins over the past couple of seasons.
I’ve been a little surprised at how easily the Kings have handled the Hornets considering how important every game is for Charlotte’s playoff hopes. That’s another conversation for another time, but I can’t see that team making the playoffs. Not anymore.
Rudy Gay was solid throughout, finishing with 33 points and 9 rebounds on 11-20 shooting. Gay has been amazing since George Karl took over for Ty Corbin at the All-Star break. He’s shooting .411 from three, and .486 from the field under Karl. Both would be career high’s by a landslide. Whatever Karl is doing with Gay, it’s clearly working.
Oh yeah. Derrick Williams did this.
And This.
You can find George Karl’s postgame press conference below.
John Wall and the Washington Wizards are in town this afternoon to play the Kings. Washington defeated Sacramento 113-97 back on March 14th. Wall had 31 points and 12 assists on 60% shooting. The Kings have to do a better job defending him tonight.
DeMarcus Cousins answered Wall with 30 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds of his own. That game was highly entertaining, with the two Kentucky alumni going at it all night. I’m expecting something similar tonight, because, wait for it …
DeMarcus Cousins is listed as probable for tonight after missing the Kings last two games. Rejoice!
The Kings lost a close one to the Wizards in Washington. Common sense would suggest that having this rematch in Sacramento should close that gap even more. At 40-29, the Wizards have already clinched a playoff spot in the weak Eastern Conference, but they are still playing for playoff seeding.
And who could talk about a Kings vs. Wizards game without mentioning the Polish Hammer himself, Marcin Gortat. It’s feels like Cousins and Gortat receive double technical fouls every time these two teams play. I find it quite entertaining.
This should be a good one.
