Wounded Sacramento Kings Host Clippers Tonight

facebooktwitterreddit

I suppose Monday night’s 110-103 loss to the Atlanta Hawks could have been worse? That is the highest praise you can give to the Sacramento Kings right now. With 16 games remaining this season, this team is limping to the finish line.

There is still time to put together a stretch of solid basketball and carry some momentum into the offseason, but that is looking less and less likely with each passing game.

The truth is, the Kings did play fairly well against the Hawks in Sacramento on Monday. Jason Thompson and Andre Miller were fantastic off the bench. DeMarcus Cousins was having a solid game, but suffered from foul trouble throughout the second half, but at some point, close losses stop counting for anything. In order to progress, this team needs to win, and they just aren’t doing that.

You can find highlights from that game below.

Remember that line about the Kings limping to the finish line? I meant that both figurative and literally. The Los Angeles Clippers are in Sacramento tonight, and the Kings could be without

DeMarcus Cousins

and

Rudy Gay

, who are both listed as questionable. Of course,

Darren Collison

is already out (and will be for the rest of the season).

The Clippers could be without both Matt Barnes and Jamal Crawford, but they are fairly healthy otherwise. This one could get ugly.

That wasn’t really meant as a compliment to the Clippers. They are just 6-6 in their last twelve games, and have looked pretty average for long stretches this season, but if the Kings have to play them without their top three players. I’d say the Kings would be in for a rough night against most of the NBA under those circumstances.

We’ve seen the DeMarcus Cousins-led Kings compete with the Clippers many times over the past few season, so if Cousins can play tonight, who knows? If they put forth a similar effort against the Clippers as they did against the Hawks on Monday, we could be in for a competitive, fun basketball game.
