The Sacramento Kings fell last night to the Houston Rockets 116-81 in their season finale. The Kings finish the season with a record of 33-49, earning them the 10th seed in the Western Conference.

Last night Sacramento were without a ton of their players. Players that were out for the Kings due to rest or injuries were DeMarcus Cousins, Rudy Gay, Rajon Rondo, Darren Collison, Marco Belinelli, Caron Butler, and Omri Casspi.

This only left the Kings to enter last evening with 8 players to suit up, and with the Rockets season hanging on a thread as well it was not a good combination in the Kings favor.

To start the game the Rockets started out strong leading 34-18 after the first quarter. The Rockets then kept their lead intact as they lead 64-44 going into halftime. The Rockets remained to keep their lead without any threat going through the second half and were able complete the victory in comfortable fashion.

Basically, the game was already over after the first two quarters. The Rockets were not going to give this game up as their playoff hopes were on the line, and since the Kings were short-staff as well they didn’t have enough firepower to execute a comeback.

  • Here are some other notes to take away from last night’s game:
  • James Harden made history as the 4th player in NBA history to average 29 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds for a season.
  • Ben McLemore led the Kings in scoring by recording 24 points.
  • Seth Curry struggled to shoot the ball by only making 3 out of his 18 shot attempts. He finished the game with 10 points.
  • Duje Dukan made his first career NBA appearance last night. He finished the game with 6 points off 2 three points shots made.
  • Kosta Koufos recorded a double-double by recording 12 points and 11 rebounds.
  • The Kings allowed the Rockets to make 48.5% of their shot on the court.
  • The Kings committed 17 turnovers.
  • Houston outscored Sacramento in points in the paint 66-38.
  • Houston outscored Sacramento in fast break points 30-17.
  • Based on sources, this may be the final game George Karl coaches with the Kings, as well as his final game coaching in the NBA.

Well, that’s it for this Sacramento Kings season. They finish with a record of 33-49 and didn’t get the job done in making the playoffs for a 10th consecutive season.

Hopefully, the front office for the Kings have a great offseason and develop a team worthy for their fans as they head into their home in Golden 1 Center next Fall.
