Sacramento Kings: Free Agents Are Being Added

The Sacramento Kings continue to find free agents to add to add to the roster. These players add versatility and depth. They also give the Kings flexibility as to how they want to build their roster. With guys like Paul George, DeMarre Carroll, and Draymond Green seeing minutes at power forward, they may feel that Omri Casspi and Rudy Gay can do enough at the power forward spot that they could look for more versatility with their final roster spots. They could go the other way and look to true power forwards to add depth to front court.

The Kings brought in two players who can do different things, Duje Dukan who impressed in summer league and Quincy Acy who has familiarity on this team. These two guys are likely competing with Eric Moreland for one roster spot. Moreland and Dukan could be names that at least start the season in Reno with the Bighorns.

Duje Dukan agreed to a contract with the Sacramento Kings, not too long after our Ti Windisch asked if he deserved a second look. His deal is at least partially guaranteed, per Shams Charania. This doesn’t guarantee he makes the team by any means. The likely scenario is that at the very least he spends time in Reno, especially if Dukan takes a 3 year deal.

Undrafted free agents can go one of two routes, either a 3 year deal or 1 year deal. While most players opt for the security of a longer term deal, others like to gamble they can do enough in year one and prove they belong. K.J. McDaniels is a great example of a player betting on themselves.

Dukan has the potential to fill stretch four role for the this team. The Sacramento Kings are desperate for outside shooting and depth for their front court. He can fill both of those roles simultaneously. At 6′ 10″ he has the size to guard bigs if necessary while possessing the necessary foot speed to keep up with some wings. With the NBA is a state of transition, Dukan could be called on to play likely limited minutes. He would likely be a guy who fills a similar role that Omri Casspi had last year but with a more limited capacity. He did enough during his time in Las Vegas to garner an extended look.

Quincy Acy is a name many Kings fans will remember. He spent part of the 2013-2014 season in Sacramento. He also was with the Kings in Summer League in the summer of 2014. Acy is a guy who will work hard and add depth to the front court, playing minutes at both power forward and center. Acy agreed to a 2 year deal with the second year being a player option.

Acy is guy that fits well in the locker room, wont complain about uncertain playing time and can fill multiple roles on this team. It’s a signing that makes too much sense. If they had the roster space last season, he likely would have remained on the roster. One guy is clearly happy.

Acy is also excited about the reunion with the team, the city and its fans.

The contract details will be telling for both Acy and Dukan. It could also mean that potential for Moreland or James Anderson to make the team is much less likely. Stay tuned to A Royal Pain for all the latest on how the Kings are shaping up for this season.
