The highest single scoring games in Sacramento Kings history
By Mat Issa
Despite ultimately losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in their first NBA Cup game, some good came from that game for the Sacramento Kings.
With DeMar DeRozan and Malik Monk down with injuries, the Kings needed one of their other stars to pick up the slack, and De'Aaron Fox – arguably the team's best player – more than answered the call.
In over 44 minutes of action (the game went into overtime), Fox scored 60 points on a pristine 75.3% true shooting. Anytime you see a number like that, you get curious about where that player's performance ranks in the team record books. So, we are here to bring you a list of the best scoring performances in team history.
Singe game scoring leaders in Sacramento history
The Kings weren't always the "Sacramento Kings." In fact, they didn't get to Sacramento until 1985, but they have been a franchise since 1948. So, the best way to make lists like this is to separate them into two categories. Our first list (this section) will look at the top ten scoring performances in Sacramento Kings history. Then, our second section will look at the top ten scoring performances in franchise history.
Player Name | Season | Points Scored |
---|---|---|
De'Aaron Fox | 2024-25 | 60 |
DeMarcus Cousins | 2015-16 | 56 |
DeMarcus Cousins | 2016-17 | 55 |
Chris Webber | 2000-01 | 51 |
Kevin Martin | 2008-09 | 50 |
DeMarcus Cousins | 2015-16 | 48 |
Kevin Martin | 2007-08 | 48 |
Kevin Martin | 2009-10 | 48 |
Keegan Murray | 2023-24 | 47 |
Mitch Richmond | 1995-96 | 47 |
So, it looks like Fox's 60 burger is the most points in franchise history since the team moved to Sacramento. It's also the only time that a player has eclipsed the 60-point mark since the team moved to Northern California (all data from this article is brought to you by the good folks at Stathead, by the way).
Looking at the top ten, it's shocking that there aren't more names from the early-2000s Kings (the most successful era of Sacramento basketball). It's likely because they played such an egalitarian style that no player had that many opportunities to put up that many points. Also, shoutout to our guy Keegan Murray for finding his way on this list!
Singe game scoring leaders in franchise history
Okay, so Fox has the record for most points in a single game since the team moved to Sacramento. But before they were in Sacramento, the team was in Rochester, Cincinnati, Kansas City, and Omaha. Where does Fox's performance when you rank all of that?
Player Name | Season | Points Scored |
---|---|---|
De'Aaron Fox | 2024-25 | 60 |
Jack Twyman | 1959-60 | 59 |
DeMarcus Cousins | 2015-16 | 56 |
Oscar Robertson | 1964-65 | 56 |
Tiny Archibald | 1971-72 | 55 |
DeMarcus Cousins | 2016-17 | 55 |
Tiny Archibald | 1972-73 | 52 |
Tiny Archibald | 1972-73 | 52 |
Tiny Archibald | 1972-93 | 51 |
Chris Webber | 2000-01 | 51 |
There you have it. With that performance against the Timberwolves, Fox is the franchise leader in points scored in a single game. On a separate note, Tiny Archibald was really on one during the 1972-73 season.
