The Sacramento Kings are trying to replicate their best era of basketball

The Sacramento Kings haven't had too many great moments in franchise history, at least compared to most other organizations. That's usually how it goes when you go 16 seasons without making the playoffs (and 21 seasons without a top 10 defense).

However, they still have had some great moments. Without a doubt, the best era in Kings basketball came in the early 2000s, when the team was headlined by Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic, Mike Bibby, Brad Miller, Vlade Divac, and Doug Christie.

The Kings made the playoffs every year from 1998 to 2006 (after that, the drought began). From 2000 to 2005, the Kings won at least 50 games each year (something they haven't done since). All told, the Kings were a good team once upon a time.

Nowadays, with De'Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan, Keegan Murray, and company, the Kings fancy themselves a good team again. And in an attempt to rekindle (and hopefully surpass) their past success, the Kings are bringing back a piece of that epoch.

The Kings Are Bringing Back Their Old Uniforms

On Monday, the Kings blessed us with the news that they would be bringing back the uniforms they donned from 2002 to 2008. Not only that, but they also announced it with a cool video featuring Christie and Bibby.*

(*Sidebar: You have to admit, it is impressive how well Christie and Bibby still fit into their uniforms. They have done an admirable job of maintaining their physiques over the years.)

From a business standpoint, this decision makes perfect sense. The Kings have their best roster since the era they were wearing those uniforms in. So, why not go back to the jerseys that are associated with all those joyous memories?

Fans of the team will surely eat these up and snag jerseys off the shelves left and right. And who knows, maybe the good vibes from those teams will rub off on us and lead to some winning in 2024-25.
