Every time people think the Warriors' offseason saga with Jonathan Kuminga is coming to an end, a new update pops up and throws everything people think they know into absolute chaos. Trade packages. New contracts. Qualifying offers. It all keeps coming, fast and furious.
Reportedly, Kuminga skipped out on a pre-training camp minicamp held by Jimmy Butler. To be fair, no one knows for sure if he avoided it or if he wasn't invited. Either way, a moment like that during major contract issues definitely throws gas on the fire.
The Kings have been a big part of this situation. They have made no secret of their desire to add Kuminga to their roster, seeing him as a young gun to build off. So far, the Warriors have seemed interested but want something big for Kuminga. The Kings need to make it happen.
Kuminga on the Kings for the right price
An early trade offer from the Kings included Malik Monk, one of the best Sixth Men in the game, and at least one first-round draft pick. The point of contention was that said draft pick was protected, something that the Warriors really didn't like.
It seemed like the trade was shut down at that point until the Warriors started talking again, this time with the name Keegan Murray in the mix. Basically, they want to trade a young star with huge potential in exchange for a young star with huge potential. From their perspective, it makes sense.
While the Kings need to do everything possible to make this trade happen, Murray might be a step too far. Sweetening the Malik Monk offer with Keon Ellis would be a better option, one that might get the Warriors to take the leap. Losing Monk would be difficult, but it would be the right move for him.
