Fans are used to the Sacramento Kings dropping losses nonstop. Now, they've won two in a row by actually playing as a team. The question is how long can they keep this going with the Knicks coming to town for their season debut in Golden 1 Center. At this point, nothing is impossible.
In back-to-back games, the Kings took on the Rockets and the Lakers at home in Sacramento. Before those two matchups, the Kings were on a seven-game slide. They put that to bed by winning two games in a row for only the second time this season and are on a two-game winning streak.
The Lakers' win was in large part thanks to the exceptional play of veterans DeMar DeRozan, Russell Westbrook, Zach LaVine, and Malik Monk. On top of that, the rest of the team came through on both ends of the court, though the defense from Precious Achiuwa, Dylan Cardwell, and others was huge.
After these two victories, the Kings now have a record of 10 wins and 30 losses. No one was sure that Sacramento would even reach double-digit wins this season. The next step is three victories in a row, though that would mean having to beat the New York Knicks, the second-best team in the East.
With wins over the Rockets and Lakers, the Kings have a chance
Beating the Rockets for a second time this season was a long shot at best. Beating the Lakers for the first time this season after two decisive losses was an even bigger long shot. Yet, the Kings pulled off two incredibly improbable victories in a row.
Oddly enough, that's not the first time this scenario has come up in 2025-2026. The only other time the Kings have had two wins back-to-back was in November against the Nuggets and the Timberwolves. And that was when Denver was at full power with a healthy Jokic.
On January 14, the Kings will face the Knicks in Sacramento for the first of two meetings this season. New York currently has a record of 25 and 14, which puts them at second in the Eastern Conference and sixth overall in the league. The 2025-2026 New York Knicks are no joke.
Even three days ago, the assumption would have been that the Kings would lose to the Knicks. But after beating the Rockets and Lakers in two days, it's hard not to believe that Sacramento at least has a chance to make it three in a row. That would be great for the Sactown faithful to see.
