The Kings are killing their own trades

Attempts to trade DeRozan and Monk have been dead ends thanks to the front office.

Possibly the most dominant story about the Kings' offseason was how quiet it was. Fans kept hoping for big moves to bring in big stars and kept getting disappointment, instead.

The hallmark of the Kings' offseason was more about moves that went nowhere. Attempts to trade DeMar DeRozan and Malik Monk went nowhere, much like the team's reported interest in Russell Westbrook.

With training camp about to start, if feels like the potential for big moves is in the past. Fans have been left wondering what happened. Or, to be more precise, what didn't happen and why.

A strange offseason for the Kings

Reports indicated that the main reason the Kings were trying to move Monk and DeRozan was to make room for Westbrook. Yet, they released Terence Davis, which opened a space, only to bring him back a couple of weeks later.

Essentially, the Kings created a spot for Westbrook, then unceremoniously closed it.

It's possible that the Kings weren't able to come to terms with Westbrook, or that one side changed their minds. Still, it seems odd that they never picked Russell up and didn't say anything about why.

Even more strange is the fact that they weren't able to find new homes for either Monk or DeRozan. Age may have been a factor, mostly for DeRozan, but there still had to be some interest. What's more likely is that the Kings' front office botched it.

The Kings' front office strikes again

Rumors say that the Kings' asking price for Monk was simply too high for other teams to consider. If that's true, then the same issue probably plagued DeRozan's trade talks.

This is typical of the Kings' front office which frequently trips over their own feet when trying to do anything. A co-owner who is far to involved in such matters only makes things worse.

Eventually, the Kings are going to have to get out of their own way if they want to get anything done. And that's absolutely has to start at the top.
