After four years in the G League, Daeqwon Plowden finally has a standard NBA contract with the Sacramento Kings. He's not the only two-way guy who has earned a permanent roster spot. The Kings also need to do right by Isaiah Stevens, another guy who will make the most of his shot.
There's no question that the Kings have done well with G League promotions in 2026. It all started with undrafted signing Dylan Cardwell. He proved he had what it took to succeed in the NBA, and was signed to a standard contract just after the trade deadline in 2026. He will be a core defensive player.
Sacramento has done the same just a few months later with Plowden. He has a combined four years in the G League, his most recent team being the Stockton Kings. Plowden came through for the Kings in a big way towards the end of the 2025-2026 season when the roster was torn apart by injuries.
Plowden recently signed his first ever standard NBA contract, making him a full member of the Sacramento squad. This was a smart move by the Kings as he's a versatile wing who provides depth on offense and defense, and has plenty of room to grow. The same is true of Stevens.
Isaiah Stevens is the Kings' next G League diamond in the rough
A point guard who went undrafted in 2024, Stevens has spent the last couple of seasons primarily in the G League. He was on the Miami Heat's affiliate for 2024-2025 and moved to the Stockton Kings for 2025-2026. But he has skills that the Kings need on the main roster as part of the rebuild.
The Kings have struggled at the point guard position since trading away both Tyrese Haliburton and De'Aaron Fox. That situation has been rectified with the recent drafting of Darius Acuff Jr. Sacramento believes he is the right starting point guard to form the rebuild around.
After letting Killian Hayes, Devin Carter, and, presumably, Russell Westbrook go, the Kings do not have a dedicated point guard to back up Acuff. That's where Stevens comes in. He's known for his court vision, high basketball IQ, pacing, and clutch execution. He has the skills the Kings need.
Give him a spot on the main roster to develop alongside Acuff and the rest of the young guns the Kings have put together. He will become the secondary point guard Sacramento is looking for. Hopefully, the Kings see that too, and put Stevens to work on the main roster.
