The Sacramento Kings have made it official and signed Daeqwon Plowden to a two-year NBA contract. This was the right choice, as Plowden played a big role in the Kings' late-season resurgence. Plus, he fits perfectly into Sacramento's rebuild process, making his signing an absolute no-brainer.

After playing five seasons with Bowling Green, Plowden declared for the 2022 NBA Draft. He went undrafted but was signed to the G League by the Pelicans' affiliate. Over the next few seasons, he played for the Birmingham Squadron, Osceola Magic, College Park Skyhawks, and Stockton Kings.

Some of those contracts were just for the G League, while the Hawks and Kings signed him to two-way contracts. That allowed him to get some NBA experience, though he never really got his shot until the back half of the 2025-2026 season in Sacramento when injuries savaged the team.

With so many players out, several rookies and sophomores got increased minutes. Plowden, who had been in and around the league for four years by that point, was one of those guys. And he made great use of the opportunity, making a huge impression on his team, the fans, and the Kings' front office.

Plowden is the exact player the Kings need

In this rebuild, the Kings are looking to create a younger roster that excels on offense without losing their defensive identity. As Plowden eased into his increased court time with the Kings, he showed that he is that guy. He's 27 with nine years of experience between college, the G League, and the NBA.

Over that time, he has developed into a reliable 3&D wing who can hit a spot-up three or in rhythm. During his time on the NBA roster last season, he was hitting 66% of his threes with the Kings. He's quick in transition, catching defenses off guard, and moves with intelligence and purpose off the ball.

Plowden's defensive acumen is no joke, either. He has the size, speed, and lateral movement to defend any position. He locks down the offense, breaks up passing lanes, and generates steals, averaging one per game on the main roster. Plowden is the type of player the Kings are looking for.

Sacramento did the right thing and signed him to a two-year contract worth $5.1 million. It is the first standard NBA contract of Plowden's career. This is an excellent story for all potential NBA players. There is no one right way to make it, and take full advantage of every opportunity you get.
