This article will analyze the offseason actions that went right for Vlade Divac and the Sacramento Kings.

Well, pretty much the excitement that is the NBA offseason is fizzling out. With the NBA draft, free agency, and summer league officially over, the next stage for NBA teams will be their training camps which are just a week away.

Now that the NBA is entering the training camp phase of the year, I thought it would be a good time to analyze the summer actions that the Sacramento Kings have done. Specifically, the moves that I thought helped guide the Kings in the right direction.

Let us go through those moments.

The Luck of the Lottery

The Kings have had rotten luck when it comes to the draft lottery. But this year, the NBA Gods were kind to them. With the help of De’Aaron Fox’s clutch presence, the Kings jumped from the eighth spot in the draft order to the second which granted them the highest pick they have received since 1991 when they had the third overall pick.

With the second pick, the Kings ended up selecting Marvin Bagley III out of the University of Duke. Bagley right now is a raw talent, but holds the athleticism, skillset, and work ethic to be a star NBA forward in his future. It will take time before he reaches his potential, but Bagley seems at the least to be a solid player once his NBA career is over.

The Harry Giles Hype

One reason why Kings fans are optimistic for their team’s rebuild is that of Harry Giles. Last season, Giles sat out his entire rookie year due to rehabbing his knee. Now that he is completely healthy, he has the chance to show the world that he can become the star player that people thought he would be before suffering his injuries.

It was a small sample size, but Giles finally got to play his first games as a King during the NBA summer league. Overall, Giles was a solid player on both ends of the court as he averaged 10.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per contest in the seven games he played.

He may not be a star yet, but Giles’ aggression, skillset, and on-the-court instincts prove that he definitely belongs in the NBA.

Kings Sign Yogi

The Kings’ free agency period was uneventful to start. But weeks later, they finally made a move by signing Yogi Ferrell to a two-year contract worth up to $6 million.

This was a good signing by the Kings. Not only did they get a player in Ferrell who could spark up their offense, but they were able to acquire him at a great value. Ferrell could definitely be one of the Kings’ strongest players coming off the bench this season, and they are only paying him $3 million a year which in NBA terms is inexpensive.

See, the Kings do not always have to overpay for players.
