See how the Sacramento Kings drafting Marvin Bagley III has the ability to change the losing ways of the franchise.

Last June, the Sacramento Kings made a surprising decision as they selected Marvin Bagley III with the second overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Many people in the Kings community, including myself, thought that Vlade Divac should have selected Luka Doncic due to him being the more NBA-ready player and filling a positional need. But with that said, Bagley has a higher ceiling than Doncic and a motor that will attract any coach.

As the Kings and their fans have gotten to know more about Bagley, there is another great quality that he possesses. That characteristic would be confidence.

Even prior to being drafted, Bagley thought of himself as the best player in the draft as he viewed DeAndre Ayton being the consensus #1 pick as “disrespectful”. Fast forward to now, and Bagley not only thinks he will be the best rookie in his class but the best player in the league period with his latest quote.

Final Thoughts

I do not agree with Bagley’s thoughts of him being the next MVP. But I do admire the confidence he has in dreaming big. When reading this quote, there is more to it than just the words. It shows that Bagley has a mindset that he WILL succeed in the NBA no matter the cost.

Although Bagley may not be ready to dominate the league yet, the Kings need more people with his mentality on their roster. In order for the Kings to finally break out from their losing ways, they need more guys like Bagley that contain both the motivation and confidence to become successful in the NBA.

It is uncertain whether Marvin Bagley III becomes a name that many generations will remember, but at least I know he has the relentless work ethic to try to reach that goal. Having a player like that should give Sacramento fans hope that their team’s losing culture is close to ending more sooner than later.
