Vlade Divac and his staff have certainly been busy over the last couple of weeks. The coaching search has been a lengthy one so far and it doesn’t look like it will come to an end anytime soon. The Sacramento Kings have been directly linked to the following list of 14 names:
Henry Bibby, David Blatt, James Borrego, Vinny Del Negro, Patrick Ewing, Jeff Hornacek, Mark Jackson, Kevin McHale, Nate McMillan, Ettore Messina, Sam Mitchell, Elston Turner, Corliss Williamson, and Mike Woodson.
The list includes candidates who have either already been interviewed or will receive an interview at some stage. However, Kevin McHale has recently withdrawn his name from the list and will no longer be considered per ESPN’s Marc Stein.
Frank Vogel is another name to consider as a possible target for the Kings. However, his name has yet to be directly linked to the Kings. Vogel, who was dismissed yesterday by the Indiana Pacers, would be an intriguing option for the Kings as he is now considered the best available coach. Unfortunately, chances may be slim for the Kings to sign someone of Vogel’s caliber.

Since the dismissal of George Karl, Vlade Divac has done a really good job of keeping things ‘in house’. The rumors of possible candidates likely only coming from the coaches agents.
It is possible that more names will pop up over the next couple of days, even weeks, but it is likely that we start to hear about second interviews with coaching candidates rather than new names. This week will probably be the final week for interviews before it’s over to Vlade, and his staff to make a decision or at least trim down the list.

I am prepared for anything because the Kings could choose to go in any direction here. They could choose to go for someone like Henry Bibby or hit a home run with Frank Vogel. A broad search like this one makes it so unpredictable, especially when information isn’t being leaked easily.
