Sacramento Kings Point Guard Darren Collison will have hip surgery this Tuesday to replace a core muscle injury that is expected to end his season, league sources told Yahoo Sports as reported earlier today by Marc Spears.
Collison suffered the injry, a strained hip flexor, February 5th against the Dallas Mavericks and has not played a minute of basketball since. As Spears reported, Collison will meet with Dr. William Myers on Monday in Philadelphia, a day prior to having the surgery.

He will then be re-evaluated three to six weeks following the surgery and there will be no timetable for his return. In 45 games this season with the Kings Collison averaged 16.1 points and 5.6 assists per game.
So now the question is how does this affect Sacramento’s remaining games?

The answer could is in fact more simple than one may think.
Collison’s injury prevented him from playing in all three games so far under new coach George Karl, and most likely it will be the youngster Ray McCallum who will take over as the starting point guard for the remainder of this season.
He played very efficient on the road against the playoff bound Los Angeles Clippers and in Sacramento’s recent victory against Milwaukee.
McCallum starting should benefit him in the future. Numerous reports have already suggested newly acquired Point Guard Andre Miller has been a hit in the locker room as a mentor and leader, and that Karl will continue to keep Miller playing off the bench due to the mileage on his career and his ability to spark the Kings offense in playing the right way.
While some have suggested it could be possible to let Kings rookie Nik Stauskas try his hand at bringing the ball up the court, that option is highly unlikely. Stauskas has struggled bad enough this season and it would be in Sacramento’s best interest to just let him try and get his footing right best he can with these remaining games left on schedule.
