The Sacramento Kings actually managed to pull out a narrow victory against the Indiana Pacers last night. And of all the possible people to lead the charge, it was Devin Carter who secured the victory in front of the hometown crowd. With a team option coming up, Carter is definitely playing for his spot.
For only the fourth time this season, the Kings have now managed to string a couple of wins together in a row. They have now beaten the Bulls and the Pacers in back-to-back games at home, though they take on the vastly improved Hornets tonight. It will be tough for Sacramento to extend the streak.
While the whole team played well, including Maxime Raynaud who picked up his fourth double-double in five games, Devin Carter was him. He played 16 minutes off the bench, picking up 24 points, five rebounds, three assists, and one steal. It's his career high for points in a single game.
His efficiency was incredible, averaging 1.5 points per minute while he was on the court. Carter went nine for 13 from the field, three of four from three, and three for three from the free throw line. This is a player who wants to earn his spot on the roster and keep it, which is the right mentality.
Devin Carter's future on the Kings is about to become clear
As everyone knows, the Kings are on the rebuilding path. It's a journey with some serious obstacles on it, mainly in the form of the monster contracts of Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis. Until those two big-money anchors are off the Kings, moving forward is going to be difficult, but not impossible.
To get the rebuild rolling, the Kings will make the moves they can around LaVine and Sabonis. Plus, the NBA Draft is coming up, and Sacramento currently has one first round pick and two second round picks to work with. That means front office is going to make hard decisions in the coming weeks.
That includes the future of Devin Carter. He's got two seasons left on his contract, but both are team options. It's completely up to the Kings if Carter continues on the roster. Based on how he's been playing in 2026, keeping him seems like a no-brainer.
For the first time since he's been a King, Devin Carter is getting regular minutes and usage. With that, his growth has been exponential. He's playing far better on a team of rookies and young guns than he did Sacramento's former roster of aging veterans. Carter can and should continue with this team.
