The Sacramento Kings are ready to trade on pretty much anyone on the roster as part of their rebuild. And with trade season starting December 15, anything could happen. That includes a potential deal with the Dallas Mavericks that could bring legendary point guard Kyrie Irving to Sacramento.

At this point, the Mavericks might be one of the few teams in worse shape than the Kings. After the insane Luka Doncic trade, Dallas bounced back by adding the number one draft pick Cooper Flagg to their roster. That was a bit like hanging a renowned painting on the wall of a burning house.

Making matters worse was who they traded Doncic for. Anthony Davis is an incredible player and one of the most dominant big men in the league today. When he's not injured, of course, and he spends a lot of time injured. There's no reason for it other than the fact that AD is incredibly injury-prone.

Dallas has suffered through a myriad of injuries since the trade, including one to Kyrie Irving that has kept him off the court since late in the 2024-2025 season. But he will return at some point, and signed an extension with the Mavericks in the offseason. That makes him trade available soon.

Kyrie Irving on the Kings is interesting

Being that Nico Harrison was finally removed from his position as the Mavs' general manager, acquiring Irving in exchange for a handful of magic beans is highly unlikely. The Kings might be able to work something out involving Zach LaVine and/or Domantas Sabonis.

Dallas is reportedly looking to move on from AD, so they could use a center like Domas who can rebound and score. Plus, he might play better with someone like Flagg feeding him under the rim. To be clear, the Kings should not trade for AD. They already have a good center in Maxime Raynaud.

Kyrie Irving is another story. At the age of 33, he has also had some injury issues, which is something to consider. At the same time, there is an argument to be made that the NBA Champion and All-Star might be one of the greatest point guards to ever play the game.

Combining Irving and Westbrook as the Kings' core point guards would create a myriad of offensive options and strategies. Plus, Westbrook is nearing retirement while Irving has a few good years left in his career. The duo could help develop the rookies and build the Kings into the future.
