A separate mock draft has the Kings selecting a somewhat different player

It's not a big break from what FanSided has been projecting.

The 2026 NBA Draft is going to be big for the Sacramento Kings. A recent mock draft from Sports Illustrated has them taking a young guard seventh overall, which is really close to what FanSided has projected in their last two mock drafts. The name might be different, but the impact is the same.

Being that the draft lottery is only a couple of weeks away and the actual draft is two months away, everyone is talking about teams picking new stars from potential college recruits. Well, unless they're talking about the NBA Playoffs, which is not something the Kings have to worry about any time soon.

In April, FanSided produced two separate mock drafts that had the same outcome for the Kings. The first one came out just after the end of March Madness. The second popped up a couple of days ago. The Kings took Mikel Brown Jr. of the Louisville Cardinals seventh overall in both cases.

Sacramento Kings on SI paints an extremely similar picture, though with a different name. Once again, they have the Kings ending up with the seventh pick, though their projections show Sacramento going with a different guard. In this case, they pick up Kingston Flemings from the Houston Cougars.

Two very similar projections that might not fit the Kings' rebuild

It's not surprising that both FanSided and SI would project Sacramento choosing seventh. Statistically, that's the most likely draft pick for the Kings to end up with. While they could pop up in a different lottery spot, the general consensus seems to be seventh for the Kings.

The difference between Brown and Flemings on Sacramento's roster is minimal at best. They are both guards who are similar in age and size. That being said, they're not identical. Brown is a three-point threat, while Flemings has real potential as a new point guard in the Kings' developmental system.

Oddly enough, FanSided projected Flemings going sixth to the Jazz in the first mock draft and eighth to the Grizzlies in the second. SI has Brown going eighth to the Grizzlies. The agreement between the two most recent drafts is that one of these players will end up on one of these teams.

Ultimately, there are no guarantees that any of this will work out how either site has projected it. A lot has to fall into place for that to happen. The question also remains if Scott Perry wants to pick another guard for a team that still struggles with logjams at those positions.
