With the 2026 NBA Draft only a few months away, everyone is talking about how great the draft class is looking this year. The Sacramento Kings are likely to get a solid first-round pick, but it's the second round that could make things interesting this year, as the Kings have two picks to work with.
As it stands right now, Sacramento has a total of three picks in the upcoming draft. They have a first-round pick coming their way, with the spot yet to be determined by the lottery. FanSided's 2026 NBA Mock Draft projects the Kings getting the second pick and using it for Cameron Boozer.
On top of that, the Kings have two second-round picks in 2026. That includes their own plus one that used to belong to the Charlotte Hornets and made its way to Sacramento through a convoluted path of trades. These picks are arguably more important than the first-round pick.
Second rounders are worth as much as first rounders in 2026
Calling the potential draft class in 2026 legendary is a massive understatement. The players likely to go in the first round are absolute game-changing talents. They are the kind of players who could help a team like the Kings climb out of the basement as they develop.
What makes this draft so special is the incredible level of talent and skill runs all the way through the first round and into the second. Yes, pulling Cameron Boozer in the first round will be huge for the Kings. What they do with those two picks in the second round is also key.
FanSided's 2026 NBA Mock Draft has the Kings picking up Chris Cenac Jr. at 31 and Alex Condon at 40. Neither are bad picks but both players are centers. As it stands right now, the Kings have a logjam at the five with Domantas Sabonis, Maxime Raynaud, Dylan Cardwell, and Precious Achiuwa.
The Kings don't need more centers
Being that it's unlikely that Sabonis is going anywhere soon and the Kings already have a pair of great young centers, they need to use at least one of those two second-round picks to find themselves a young point guard. Someone who can mesh with the existing rookies and grow with the rebuild.
Boozer is a power forward, and an incredible one at that. Sabonis won't be a King forever, so picking up another young center to build more size into the team makes sense. But they also need a point guard to back up Russell Westbrook, who is in his 18th season and will retire in the next few years.
After letting both Tyrese Haliburton and De'Aaron Fox go, the Kings need a real strategy for the future of their starting point guard position. There are options in the NBA and in the G League, but the draft is another place the front office should be looking for such a player.
