One of the few benefits of being at the bottom of the league is hopefully getting a high draft pick. According to FanSided's updated 2026 NBA Mock Draft, the Sacramento Kings are projected to select second overall and add Duke star Cameron Boozer to the roster this offseason.
It figures that the Kings would be the worst team in the league and still not get the number one draft pick. To be fair, having the most abysmal record in the NBA doesn't guarantee getting the first selection. It just gives that team the best odds of getting that pick in the draft lottery.
Keeping all of that in mind, getting the second overall pick might be the best thing to happen to the Kings since the 2025 Draft. Actually, that's not fair. They did pick up Russell Westbrook since last year's draft, and he has been a big part of making Sacramento almost watchable this season.
Still, it's going to be hard to top last year's draft. The King selected both Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud, as well as picking up the undrafted Dylan Cardwell. All three of them are playing really well so far, and will be integral to the rebuilding process that may finally make the Kings remotely relevant.
Cameron Boozer may end up a King after the 2026 Draft
While this was an absurdly early prediction, A Royal Pain projected that Boozer would be a likely draft pick for the Kings back in October 2025. This call was made only five days into the current season. What can I say? We weren't exactly confident in the Kings this season and expected a high draft pick.
FanSided updated their draft projections shortly after the trade deadline finished. Now, Sacramento is getting the second pick and going with Cameron Boozer, a move that still makes sense almost four months after A Royal Pain originally proposed the idea. He could be a game-changer for the Kings.
Boozer is an offensive nightmare for his opponents, who is seemingly able to score from anywhere. Plus, he's an incredible hub for the rest of the team, facilitating the offense with his incredible passing. He's not much of a rim protector, but the Kings have Dylan Cardwell for that.
That doesn't mean Boozer is weak on defenss. He collects a surprising number of steals and generates a lot of turnovers. Overall, he remains the player the Kings need at the center of their rebuild. The damage he could do alongside guys like Raynaud and Cardwell boggles the mind.
