Scott Perry remains confident in a key member of the Kings

This is despite the slow start.

When things go wrong on an NBA franchise, the first people that get blamed are usually the head coach or the general manager. Despite the tough start to the season, Sacramento Kings' GM Scott Perry continues to be confident in the work of head coach Doug Christie, which is good to see.

While the Kings have finally managed to string a couple of wins together, the first quarter of the season has not been kind to them. They are currently 13th in the Western Conference with a record of five and 13. All of that is an improvement over where they were a couple of games ago.

Coming into this season, new head coach Doug Christie was preaching the importance of defense. It's impossible to overstate how right he was then and is now on that. The Kings haven't had a real defensive identity in years, which is a big part of the reason why they've done so poorly.

The issue is Christie has a roster of shoot-first guards, not defenders and playmakers. That's not his fault, nor is it the fault of Scott Perry. They inherited this roster, such as it is, from the previous regime. Regardless, the slow start is in part due to the incongruity between the plan and the players.

Scott Perry isn't placing blame

Keeping in mind that Perry's new age positive mentality posts on social media can be a little cloying, it's good to see him standing behind Christie. This is quite literally Doug's first full season as the Kings' head coach, a team that needs a lot of work and is heading into a full rebuild.

Perry is highly aware of this, and has made it clear this rebuild is a long-term project. For it to pan out, the head coach and the general manager absolutely need to be on the same page. So far, it seems like that is the case for Perry and Christie as they figure out the next evolution for the Kings.

Well, at least they're showing a unified front in public. No one knows what's happening behind closed doors as the media is focused entirely on Sacramento's on court issues. For all anyone knows, Perry and Christie are at each other's throats, though that seems incredibly unlikely.

Given the glacially slow start to the season, it would be easy for Scott Perry and the front office to throw Doug Christie under the bus. So far, that isn't happening. And that's a good sign for Sactown fans hoping for their NBA team to climb out of the basement.
