Kings next roster move should be painfully obvious after recent news

This makes too much sense.

It’s been quite the year for the Sacramento Kings. Entering the season, they were hoping to bounce back from a down year with De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, and Mike Brown leading the way. Fast forward to now, and they are fighting to stay in the Play-In mix, and two of those three guys are gone. But they’re still making moves to round out their roster.

In the latest Sacramento-related news, the Kings just inked Terry Taylor to a 10-day contract. Taylor had spent the year with the Stockton Kings, the team’s G League affiliate, and was recently rewarded with the opportunity. But the Kings still only have 14 active players on their roster, meaning they have room to add one more guy (and perhaps two if Taylor doesn’t stick).

And considering everything, the Kings’ next move after signing Taylor to a 10-day deal is painfully obvious.

Kings should sign Isaac Jones to standard contract

Sacramento has already proven to be interested in pulling from their G League squad. Taylor was hooping in Stockton before being rewarded with his chance with the big club.

Now, since the Kings could look to fill their 15th roster spot ahead of the playoffs, it only makes sense for them to bring in someone they know. And that someone should be Isaac Jones.

Jones has been on a two-way contract with the Kings all year and has earned a few reps with the G League team. In 11 appearances with Stockton, Jones has averaged 20.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. He’s shot 55.8% from the field and 27.0% from behind the three-point line.

But perhaps more notably, Jones has appeared in 31 regular-season games for the Kings this year. He hasn’t played a ton of minutes, and some of his appearances have been in blowouts, but he’s earned some real minutes at times, too.

The 24-year-old rookie has proven to be a very useful player for the Kings to employ this season, especially considering their big man rotation hasn’t been super consistent.

Rewarding Jones for his hard work by upgrading his two-way deal to a standard contract makes a ton of sense for everyone involved. Even if they do decide to keep Terry around on a standard contract, they would still have room for Jones, too.

Plus, upgrading Jones’ deal would allow them to bring in another two-way guy.

Signing Jones to a standard contract is a painfully obvious move that the Kings should make, especially with how solid he’s looked all year.
