On Tuesday, the Sacramento Kings secured their first win of the season over the Portland Trail Blazers. In that game, Fox scored 24 points. For a player who averaged 26.6 PPG last season, putting up 24 doesn't seem like a big deal. But during the game, Fox reached a milestone that made this game very, very special.
De'Aaron Fox joins the 10,000 point club
Against the Blazers, Fox scored his 10,000th career point. This accomplishment makes him only the 399th player in NBA history to get to that benchmark. His teammate, DeMar DeRozan, is one of those players. Meanwhile, Domantas Sabonis is 867 points away from reaching 10,000 career points himself.
And given the fact that Fox has only ever played for the Kings, that means that all of his points came while wearing a Sacramento uniform. Very few players have ever been able to say they did this. In fact, Fox is one of five players in franchise history to score 10,000 points while being an employee of the organization. The other four are Oscar Robertson, Jack Twyman, Mitch Richmond, and Tiny Archibald.
Player Name | Points Scored |
---|---|
Oscar Robertson | 22,009 |
Jack Twyman | 15,840 |
Mitch Richmond | 12,070 |
Tiny Archibald | 10,894 |
De'Aaron Fox | 10,007 |
If Fox continues scoring at his current rate (22.4 PPG) and plays 75 games (right around the number he's played in each of the last two years), Fox will surpass Archibald on this list and be just 450 points behind Richmond. So, barring any injuries (*knocks wood*) Fox will be third all-time on this list before the end of the 2025-26 season.
If Fox ends up signing an extension with the Kings, he will surpass Twyman in either the 2026-27 or the 2027-28 season. However, if he wants to catch Robertson, Fox may have to spend his entire career with the Kings – something that would likely garner him consideration for a statute outside of the esteemed Golden 1 Center.
