At the center of the Sacramento Kings' rebuild has been the dynamic duo of Maxime Raynaud and Dylan Cardwell. The rookie centers both had breakout seasons spawned from a real friendship and a desire to improve each other's games. That is the mentality that will turn this team around.

Even Odysseus would look at the journey the Kings have been on for the past 20+ years and pity them. And much like the legendary Greek hero, Sacramento's trials and tribulations have been caused by their own bad choices. The difference is that Poseidon isn't behind the Kings' problems.
Instead, it has been bad front office decisions, a revolving door of head coaches, and endless bad luck. But in the last year, current general manager Scott Perry has been making some real changes to the franchise that have already been having a positive impact on the team as the rebuild progresses.
It all started with the 2025 NBA Draft. The Kings selected Nique Clifford and Raynaud, then signed the undrafted Cardwell shortly after. Both Raynaud and Cardwell quickly built reputations as centers who can get the job done at both ends of the court. That comes from cooperation and mutual respect.

Raynaud and Cardwell are looking for minutes and development at the same position, but they have taken an 'iron sharpens iron' approach to this situation. They are working together to make each other better and are helping the Kings improve their place in the league as a result.
The duo is taking pride in each other's success while supporting each other through their failures. Alongside Clifford and Precious Achiuwa, they have formed a group called the Beam Boys that's about celebrating all of this. It is quite literally the power of friendship at work on the Kings.
It's impossible to deny the aura of positivity coming off Raynaud and Cardwell. Heck, it's already infecting this year's rookies. Both Darius Acuff Jr. and Emanuel Sharp have commented on the good vibes coming from the locker room as well as the Sactown fanbase. It's all very real.
Saying that the power of friendship is part of the engine that's driving the Kings forward is not an insult. It's perfect. It's exactly what they need. This franchise needs a duo like Raynaud and Cardwell at its core to drive this rebuild forward, and keep it on the right track. This is a team sport, after all.
