The Sacramento Kings probably won't be trading for this former All-Star

When the Sacramento Kings reached a four-year, 78-million dollar extension agreement with Malik Monk (one of the best role players in basketball), it meant that they would be keeping their trusty sixth man for the foreseeable future.

Apparently, what it also signaled is that they were out of the running for trading for a certain former All-Star. At least, that's how it sounds, according to recent reporting from HoopsHype Insider Michael Scotto.

""Looking ahead, the Bulls are continuing to search for a new home for guard Zach LaVine, league sources said. Some rival executives believed the four-year, $78 million agreement with Malik Monk would take Sacramento out of any LaVine talks.""

This news is noteworthy for multiple reasons. First, Zach LaVine is only two years removed from his last All-Star appearance. When he's right, his presence has a significant impact on winning and losing, meaning that news pertaining to his next employer is inherently noteworthy.

But more importantly, this is interesting because, on Friday, it was reported by Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer that the Kings were still a potential suitor for LaVine. So, one has to wonder if something has changed in the last couple of days or if the two sources just got some conflicting intel. And if the latter is the case, which intel is the right information?

Scotto did also note that the Chicago Bulls front office is pretty high on Kevin Huerter. So, maybe the door isn't completely closed on a LaVine trade (by the way, Huerter would be a great spacer to pair with the newly acquired Josh Giddey).

In my opinion, the Kings should be out of the LaVine sweepstakes. It's not that I don't think he still has good years of hoops left in him. It's just that his skillset is pretty redundant of Monk's, and that the team has other areas of weakness that they should be prioritizing if they intend on taking this team to the next level.

If Scotto's reporting is correct, the Kings' focus may be shifting toward adding a forward like Brandon Ingram (another former All-Star), Kyle Kuzma, or Jerami Grant.
