With the NBA Draft Lottery looming, FanSided has released a new mock draft that shows the Sacramento Kings selecting Mikel Brown Jr. seventh overall. While he would be a solid pick, the Kings should be able to do better in the draft, particularly with the number of big names in the mix.

Sacramento choosing seventh is statistically the most likely outcome at this point. Being that they are selecting fifth in the lottery, they have the best odds of getting the seventh pick. Oddly enough, the lowest odds are for the fifth draft pick, which makes sense from a mathematical perspective.

This hasn't changed from FanSided's last mock draft in early April, which also had the Kings picking seventh. On top of that, the same draft also indicated that they would go with Brown. Again, that hasn't changed in the new draft as Brown remains a likely target for the rebuilding franchise.

Brown wouldn't be a bad choice. He has a reliable three and can space the floor well. At the same time, there are concerns about consistency as well as how his other shots will develop. Plus, the Kings really don't need another young guard, given how many are already on the team.

There are better choices for Sacramento in the draft

First and foremost, the Kings could still end up with a higher draft pick. Yes, the seventh pick has the highest odds, but that's not a guarantee. They'll end up with a pick in the top ten, but that may yet be in the top five. Fans will know for sure when the lottery happens on Sunday, May 10.

Regardless of the first-round pick they end up with, this draft is stacked with incredible players who could change any franchise's outlook. And some of them would be a far better fit for what Sacramento is building than Brown would be.

Nate Ament, a great forward out of Tennessee, would be a better addition to the Kings. He has some work to do on his shooting, but his defensive versatility is undeniable. The mock draft currently has him going tenth to the Bulls, meaning he could still be in the mix for the Kings.

Scott Perry has made it clear that they are drafting based on fit and talent first, not position. If the draft does play out the way FanSided has projected, there are better options for the Kings than Brown. Picking him wouldn't be a mistake. He just wouldn't be the best choice for them.
