EuroBasket wrapped up over the weekend with the gold medal game between Germany and Turkey. The Houston Rockets' Alperen Sengun headed up Turkey's squad while the Kings' Dennis Schroeder stood in for Germany.
And Schroeder came to play.
Germany ultimately won the final 88 to 83, securing the gold for their team and country. On top of that, Schroeder received the TISSOT MVP of EuroBasket 2025, an honor he definitively earned with some exceptional play down the stretch.
With a little over a minute left in the game, Germany was down by one point, Schroeder made a layup to take the lead. Then on the next play, he hammered another nail in the coffin with a pull-up jumper. Schroeder finished the game with 16 points and 12 assists.
The Kings should be happy with Schroeder
This was Germany's first EuroBasket gold medal since 1993, a more than 30 year gap between victories. Schroeder has been consistently praised for his gameplay throughout the tournament. He was an integral part of ending that drought.
Schroeder winning a gold medal plus the MVP should be a boost for Kings' fans. He was traded to Sacramento in the offseason, something many fans were not convinced was the right move. Dennis moves around the NBA a lot, and has never quite seemed to live up to his potential.
While everyone isn't convinced, his EuroBasket performance should be seen as a positive for the Kings. Dennis played amazing basketball across the board. Hopefully, he brings some of that heat to the Kings.
Even if he doesn't take things to EuroBasket levels for Kings, he may still be a difference maker on the court. With a De'Aaron Fox shaped hole still needing to be filled on the roster, many fans will be looking to Schroeder to pick that slack up, particularly after his MVP honors.
