It's a mixed bag of different challenges.

While the Sacramento Kings work to put the finishing touches on their 2026-2027 roster, the league has issued the full regular-season schedule. If the Kings want to prove to Sactown that things are changing, those first ten games are important, as they will set the tone for this entire season.

Sacramento fans want more from the Kings. They're also not crazy. No one who follows the Kings expects them to win a title or make the playoffs this year. At this point, a winning season would be considered a minor miracle by many. Frankly, just being fun to watch would be huge.

The rebuild process has the potential to turn the Kings into a franchise that's relevant, but it's still too early to tell how it will pan out. All that Sacramento can do as an organization is focus on what's in front of them while keeping an eye on the future. Hopefully, it's so bright the Kings will need shades.

In the meantime, Sactown's finest still need to show some improvement in 2026-2027. Current projections have them winning roughly the same number of games as last year. Changing that outlook starts with a solid performance in the first ten games of the 2026-2027 regular season.

The Kings have to open the season swinging for the fences

Those ten games have some interesting matchups, including two rounds with the San Antonio Spurs. Maxime Raynaud has put on some muscle and some confidence over the offseason, meaning he might prove more of a challenge for Wemby. Still, victory over the Spurs feels unlikely.

The same will likely be true against the Heat, the Lakers, and the Mavericks. All four of these teams will be tough opponents for Sacramento. That doesn't matter as long as the Kings stay competitive, which is exactly what fans want to see. Staying in the fight is job number one.

Beyond that, Sacramento has two games against the Grizzlies as well as singles against the Clippers, Blazers, and Pelicans. These are all winnable matchups for the Kings. Some will be more difficult than others, but there's no reason Sacramento cannot pick up a few wins against these teams.

There is real potential here for the Kings to go five and five to open the season, which would be a drastic improvement over 2025-2026. Getting off to a start like that would show their fans that things are changing and that there is hope for the Kings to actually become relevant in the NBA.
