Kings have the best fans in the NBA and deserve better from the ownership

It's a statement of fact.

Being a fan of the Sacramento Kings is no easy task, particularly during the Vivek Ranadive era. There hasn't been much to cheer about, yet these fans show up to Golden 1 Center every night and do just that. The fans deserve better, meaning the Kings had better take this rebuild seriously.

As Carmichael Dave of Sactown Sports quite accurately pointed out on social media, the Kings were one loss away from being the worst team in the league. They narrowly avoided that fate by pulling out an improbable skin of their teeth overtime win against Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets.

In two decades, the Kings have only had one season that was remotely good, which is now referred to as the Beam Team Era. That being said, calling it an "era" is a bit of a stretch. It was one season that ended the longest playoff drought in professional sports at the time.

Getting into the playoffs is something to be proud of. Unfortunately, that's the only accomplishment of note for the Kings in 20 years. Ownership and management are the major problems. Current owner Vivek Ranadive inherited many issues but has done nothing of substance to solve them.

Kings' management and ownership take their fanbase for granted

Despite all of this, Sacramento fans remain rabidly loyal to the Kings. No matter how bad things get, they show up to Golden 1 Center and cheer for their team. Even if they don't have much to cheer about, they are there for the Kings and really seem to believe in the franchise.

The problem is that the franchise is taking that for granted. Ranadive and his management team do little to make anything better because they don't really have to. Fans will seemingly show up no matter what is going on or how often the Kings lose.

To be clear, this is not the fault of the players. They go out there every night and put up a fight. This is definitely true of the current roster. Regardless of how imbalanced and poorly coached this crew is, they still do their best to grind out wins.

No matter how loyal the Kings' fans are, they will only get pushed so far before they walk. The rebuild is necessary because it will restore faith in the franchise before its fans finally have enough and give up. Everyone has their limit, even the Sactown faithful.
