It's California Classic time once again, and the Sacramento Kings have announced their roster for the mini-tournament. There is a mix of fully contracted players, two-way talents, and prospective athletes the Kings are examining. What's more interesting are the names who are not on that list.

The California Classic is an event hosted by the Kings and Golden State Warriors that features players from a selection of teams. This year's event includes the Kings and Warriors as well as the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, and Milwaukee Bucks.

Games take place from July 4th to 6th in Sacramento and July 3rd, 5th, and 6th in San Francisco. It's a lead-in to the NBA Summer League, which happens in Las Vegas from July 9th to 19th. Basically, the NBA devotes the month of July to assessing young players to see how they may or may not fit.

For the Kings, this year's Classic is incredibly important. They are roughly a year into the rebuild and have gone through two draft cycles as part of it. This is an opportunity to look at the main roster, their G League squad, and their developmental list, then start building their strategy for the next season.

The Kings' Summer League roster has a few surprises on it

Most of Sacramento's sophomores and rookies will be playing. That includes Dylan Cardwell, Nique Clifford, Darius Acuff Jr., Alex Karaban, and Emanuel Sharp. Missing from that group is Maxime Raynaud, who is playing for the French national team. He is expected to return for Vegas.

Daeqwon Plowden also appears to be sitting the Classic out. He is currently a restricted free agent, and it is expected that the Kings will convert him to a full NBA contract. That being said, another former two-way athlete from last season, Isaiah Stevens, is on the Classic roster.

The Kings have also put recent two-way signings Jonathan Mogbo and Adam Flagler on the team, as well as 10-day signing Elias Ralph. One really interesting roster addition is Guo Haowen, an eight-year veteran of the Chinese Basketball Association and an effective wing who went undrafted in 2022.

Every team in the California Classic has gone through some significant changes over the past few weeks, so this year's matchups will be incredibly interesting. It will be a great test for the younger members of the Kings' roster, giving Sacramento fans a preview of the 2026-2027 season.
