Be careful with rumors.

Recent reports on the Sacramento Kings locker room have indicated that Domantas Sabonis isn't happy playing alongside Darius Acuff Jr. While it seems those rumors are untrue, the bigger issue is the fact that Sabonis appears to actually be unhappy on the Kings in general. No surprise there.

2026-2027 has gotten off to a terrible start for the Kings. They are the last team in the league to not pick up their first win, making them the worst team in the NBA. A big part of that is the non-stop injuries to key players like Maxime Raynaud, Dyland Cardwell, Keegan Murray, and more.

Now, there are also reports that Sabonis is not enjoying playing with Acuff. That honestly wouldn't be a shock, as Sabonis is notorious for wanting the offense run through him. Acuff certainly isn't doing that, having scored 38 points with nine three-pointers in the Kings' last game.

Carmichael Dave of Sactown Sports has disputed these reports. He is saying that there's no indication of any problems between Sabonis and Acuff. Dave also said that Sabonis appears to have real issues with the Kings organization and his future in it. That actually makes a lot more sense.

The future of Domantas Sabonis as a King

These same reports talking about Sabonis and Acuff are also saying Sabonis is on the trade block. No kidding. Despite what Sabonis says, Sacramento has been trying to move him for over a year now. The problem is that he's a center who doesn't defend with two years left on an expensive contract.

More than that, there aren't many teams out there that want a center who's only useful when the offense is run through him. Options for movement are limited, leaving the Kings trying to work their rebuild around Sabonis. They're in a position where they have to use him, but they don't want to.

Sabonis isn't stupid. He has to be aware of this, and it can't possibly feel good. The team he's on wants to move on from him, and they can't find a new team to take him on. He even signed with new representation over the summer, known for making tough trades work. Still nothing.

Now combine all of that with the fact that he's an All-Star, All-NBA center currently stuck on the worst team in the NBA. The real shock would be if Sabonis was happy with his current situation. However this plays out, it seems like it's in everyone's best interests if Sabonis moves to a new team.
